I’ve shot Aggie weddings before, but perhaps never so diehard a couple as Mattie & Tyler. Their first date was at Fuego freshman year. Tyler’s proposal included twelve stops, the last of which was the top of Kyle Field. When asked what they were most looking forward to in marriage, Tyler wrote “I can’t wait to become an old Ag with her.” Mattie, without knowing Tyler’s response, wrote, “I can’t wait to become an old senile Ag with him.” And fittingly, Mattie & I met at our A&M graduation. We were seated beside each other alphabetically. How perfect is that?
Mattie already had a wedding photographer when we met. But, when COVID changed their original wedding plans, she booked me for their new date. Largely because of this couple, I am a huge fan of getting married first and celebrating later.
Mattie as a bride was joyful, confident, gracious, and so much fun the whole day. There wasn’t a hint of wedding stress around. She was ready early, open to anything, and focused on everyone around her. I remember the first thing she said when I arrived was “You look so pretty!” Coming from a bride in full hair & makeup! Her kindness and focus on others were unreal.
One of my favorite parts of the day was watching how Mattie treated her sweet flower girl. She made her feel so special by kneeling to her level, giving her a necklace, and reading the meaningful note that accompanied it. During the reception, she took her out on the floor to dance. She twirled her with Tyler and invited her in the middle of all the grown-up girls dancing. Those must be such precious memories to take home as a little girl, and I love that Mattie took the time to give them to her.
Tyler was just as joyful and stress free as Mattie. They had no jitters and shared the sweetest first look even though he’d already seen her in the dress when they originally got married. Seeing his excitement was so special knowing it was the second time around and he was still thrilled.
Because Mattie & Tyler were already married, they’d already exchanged rings. During their second ceremony for all the family and friends who weren’t able to be there during their first, Tyler surprised Mattie with another wedding band. What a sweet reminder of their wedding story that will always be for them.
I kept thinking about what a gift it was to experience this special day with Mattie & Tyler simply because I made a friend at graduation. This was special and it felt like a gift to me. Mattie & Tyler, your day was amazing and I am such a fan of you two. I so admire all the grace and enthusiasm you both brought to your second wedding celebration, and I think it shines through in these photos. I can’t wait for you to see them all!
