WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE maternity portraits? What about newborns?

The most important thing to keep in mind when scheduling maternity portraits is how you want to feel. While a common time to schedule is about seven months out, it's up to you if you'd like to be a little more comfortable and shoot when you're smaller, or schedule when you're closer to your due date. 

Most newborn portraits take place one to two weeks after birth. Getting on the calendar after those first two weeks is totally possible, but your little one will grow less tiny by the day, so most moms prefer the 7-14 day window.

DO YOU EVER USE PROPS FOR NEWBORNS?

It's totally up to you if and how much you'd like to include the rest of your family in maternity, newborn, and one year portraits of your newest family member, but I like to recommend some level of inclusion just for the sake of authenticity: your baby is joining a family, so it makes sense to include everyone in the beginning of their story.

While props are an element some photographers love incorporating into newborn sessions, I shoot with a lifestyle approach. We capture your little one in their nursery, in your arms, snuggles in bed with Mom & Dad etc. Whatever makes sense to your story is what we want to capture.
